Time

Time is funny.
I can't seem to find enough of it, yet it's always passing by.
I've taken my time, told the time, and been timed.
There is a time for everything but some things take no time.
Every day I'm having the time of my life.

Time - Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run, to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
And races around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Cats

I've been up island quite a bit for work lately, and when I get back it's dark. My living space isn't exactly warm and inviting when I return, so I've been contemplating getting a cat. I think another creature sharing my space will make it more homey.

Went golfing at Cedar Hill yesterday. LOL it was an endless series of bushes, lakes, and at one point, a major road. At least I was able to provide my golfing partners with a source of entertainment.

Currently Playing: # 1054 - Alannah Myles - Still Got This Thing

Everybody Wants To Be A Cat - The Aristocats

Everybody wants to be a cat,
Because a cat's the only cat
Who knows where it's at.
Everybody's pickin' up on that feline beat,
'Cause everything else is obsolete.

Now a square with a horn,
Makes you wish you weren't born,
Every time that he plays.
And with a square in the act,
He can set music back
To the caveman days.

I've heard some corny birds who tried to sing,
But a cat's the only cat
Who knows how to swing.
Who wants to dig, a long-haired gig
Or stuff like that?
When everybody wants to be a cat.

A square with a horn,
Makes you wish you weren't born,
Every time that he plays.
And with a square in the act,
He's gonna set this music back,
To the stone age days.

Everybody wants to be a cat,
Because a cat's the only cat,
Who knows where it's at.
While playin' jazz you always has a welcome mat,
'Cause everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody digs a swingin' cat.

See you when I see you.

Blogger Neglect

I've been having some issues with my computer, so keeping up with my blog isn't the foremost thing on my mind. It's been the better part of a week since I last posted, but not much exciting has happened since then. A little bit of golf, a lot of work, and not much in between.

Today is my sisters birthday. Happy 35th (?) Tiff. You are still as much of a pain in the ass now as you were then LOL.

See you when I see you.

Parades & Pirates.

It was a busy weekend full of new things and old faces. The kids and I enjoyed the Buccaneer Days parade on Saturday from in front of the local Timmys. It was a pretty short and cheesy affair, but then again it is Esquimalt LOL. It seemed that the only requirement for entering the parade was the ability to walk. There were people walking the route in small groups between the floats (2 or 3) LOL. First class all the way!!

After the parade finished we went over to the fair, which was behind the arena. Once again it was a total rip-off. We all went on three rides and two shared two rides, and it came to over fifty bucks!! The Tilt-O-Whirl made us all feel sick so we got ready to leave. We saw my friend Munj at his jewelry booth and he gave Colleen some free bangles. We came home and spent the afternoon lying around trying to regain our equilibrium. It took me a few hours to feel right again LOL.

Went and tried lawn bowling for the first time yesterday. I thought it was a game for old farts dressed in white, but it was actually quite fun. Graham's dad Jack is the president of some club and they are trying to drum up some younger members. Drove out to the (pitch??field??)lawn bowling place LOL, behind Bear Mountain Arena. The first game I was paired with Jack and we made quick work of Graham and Kelly. In the second game Kelly and I upset Team MacPherson in front of some of the club members. I don't know if beating the president like that will warrant another invitation to go LOL.

Buccaneer Days

After two back-breaking days of wardrobe cabinet installs at the James Bay Lodge the weekend is finally here!! And, what better way to spend a Saturday then at Esquimalt Buccaneer Days. Joshua and Colleen are over tonight and tomorrow we are going to soak up some of that unique Esquimalt culture. There is a parade in the morning, and everyone loves a parade!! After that we will spend the better part of the day enjoying the fair. It will probably be the usual shitty collection of rides and such, but it is all about the kids.

We went for an awesome meal at Moxie's tonight, followed by a movie back here. The film of the evening was "The Story of the Weeping Camel". It was a fascinating look at another part of the world, Mongolia. Not really a gripping movie, it has some great photography and it is easy to get lost in the differences between the western way of over-consumption and the simple nomadic life on the Gobi Desert. Not something I'd recommend for entertainment purposes, but for an inquiring mind it is definitely worth the watch.

Motorcycle Diaries

Went and hung out with some friends last night and watched one of the best movies I have seen so far this year, "The Motorcycle Diaries". It is the story of a young Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado and the epic road trip they took across Latin America. A well-acted and very moving film, if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. Five stars out of a possible five.

Currently playing on the countdown is song number 1202, "Beast of Burden" by The Stones.

Sick Day

Home from work early today due to the fact that I feel like ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag. Lots of rest, some chicken soup, and I'd kill for a massage LOL. Oh well, guess it will just have to be the rest and soup. Feeling like I should stop typing and go lie down.

See you when I see you.

Madagasgar

The kids and I totally enjoyed ourselves at the Selkirk Waterfront Festival yesterday!! They had all sorts of inflatable fun things there, as well as the greasy hamburgers that seem to only come from a trailer LOL. We hung out in the sun for a few hours taking in all the sights, though we were probably all looking at different things!!

After we hung outside, we drove out to the Caprice to check out the latest animated feature "Madagasgar". It's quite a funny story about some zoo animals who are going to be re-introduced to the wild. There are various big names lending their voices. For me, the funniest part are the penguins. They run around like miniature mobsters and basically steal (pun intended) every scene they are in.

Currently listening to song number 1270 on the countdown. "Hand to hold on to" by John Mellencamp.

Selkirk Festival

Saturday morning and my kids are over. I introduced them to a couple of classic movies last night. We watched "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Big". Today we are going to the Selkirk Waterfront for some type of kid's festival they are holding. It sounds like a blast and hopefully it will be as fun as it sounds. It is great just having them here with me!!

See you when I see you.

King of Pain

King of Pain - Police

There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a little black spot on the sun today
(That's my soul up there)
It's the same old thing as yesterday
(That's my soul up there)
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
(That's my soul up there)
There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop
(That's my soul up there)

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a fossil trapped in a high cliff wall
(That's my soul up there)
There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall
(That's my soul up there)
There's a blue whale beached by a spring tides ebb
(That's my soul up there)
There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web
(That's my soul up there)

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a king on his throne with his eyes torn out
There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt
There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed
There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread

King of pain

There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack
(That's my soul up there)
There's a black-winged gull with a broken back
(That's my soul up there)
There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

King of pain
King of pain
King of pain
I'll always be king of pain
I'll always be king of pain
I'll always be king of pain

See you when I see you.
