Idle Bits of Chatter

I took my kids to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" tonight. As much as Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors, I still think Gene Wilder played a more likeable Willy Wonka. Johnny's Wonka came across as a mix between Mr. Rogers and Michael Jackson. Creepy is the best description. The actual factory was done a lot better thanks to thirty years of technology and Tim Burtons delightfully twisted imagination. I also prefer the old Oompa Loompas, the new one's remind me of Gordie Dodd from Dodd's furniture LOL.

I was asked by someone today why I blog, and it got me thinking about that. I think I was originally attracted to blogging just to have a place online where I could show people a little about the inner workings of me LOL. Now it has evolved to a point where although I sometimes don't feel much like writing, I still sit here and churn out a couple of sentences just for the sake of, well nothing actually LOL. I am flattered that you take the time to stop by, so I try to blog daily. I apologize for the ones that suck LOL, and I'm going to try to add more substance.

Migraine

I've been in the grips of a migraine for the past couple of days, hence the non-post. Lots of quiet room with no noise LOL. That is after I finish work. Still going to the job, though I imagine I'm not the best person to work with right now LOL. It has pretty much receded to the point of bearibility and I figure it'll be gone by lunch. I get them when my back decides to tighten up, an little souvenir from my piano through the wall trick LOL. For those of you who don't know the story, about fifteen years ago I was moving a piano up a flight of stairs with someone, when they tripped. He let go of his end, and the piano took me down a flight of stairs, through the interior wall, and bulged out the exterior stucco. I was pretty messed up physically from it and it can still rear the ugly head of pain every once in a while.

A Little Excitement

After dinner this evening I went down to Saxe Point beach to do a little meditation and relaxation. I had just settled in when there were police up on the hill, on the beach, dogs going every which way, looking for a robbery suspect. It was a little excitement to break up an otherwise perfect evening with a wonderful sunset.

Wasted Day

Just got in from work. It was a long, long day, but at the end of it I still don't feel like I've accomplished much. Just one of those days I guess. I am tired and not much in the mood to write tonight.

See you when I see you.

The Meaning of Life

Did a small job for a friend this morning and then spent some of the day watching Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life". I like the fish scene and the kidney donor skit.

The Galaxy Song - Eric Idle

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious, or daft
And you feel that you've had quite en-o-o-o-ough

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
'Round the sun which is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred million stars,
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side,
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions,
In this amazing and expanding universe.

Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz,
As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there is intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

Faith and Humans

My faith in the human race took a little bit of a knock this morning. I was hurtin' from last night, so I went with a friend to get some breakfast to try to kill the pain. As we were eating, I noticed people going past the window outside, were looking down on the pavement and then scurrying quickly away. I thought maybe there was someone drunk lying there, as I had seen that at this exact place once before. (Right in the middle of a busy street at noon LOL). Getting back to my story, curiosity finally got the better of me and I got up to have a look. There was a small bird lying there, in obvious pain, fallen from a nest above. It was hotter than hell on the pavement and people were just ignoring it. This had gone on for about forty-five minutes mind you. I took the bird to the vet ( a whole fifty yards away) and they called SPCA to come and get it. There is no way that bird will survive, but it didn't need to live it's last like that.

People sometimes suck.

Girls, Girls, Girls

I have been out drinking with some friends tonight so if my post seems a little stranger I have an actual excuse.

I noticed as I went about today, the female form. I looked deeper than usual and found that there were extraordinary women everywhere I went in this city. Not only do I live in the most beautiful city in the country, it is also the home to the most beautiful women .

Went for a tour of all the old Western Communities watering holes and ended up at Ma Miller's when who should be tending bar but one of my old roomies. Talk about deja vu all over again, he was working there fifteen years ago too !!

My head is spinning as much as the room so it is time for me to crash.

Happy Birthday Shell

Today is the birthday of someone who was very instrumental in me becoming the person I am today. She helped me become more aware of myself, as well as the world around me. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be the fabulous specimen I am today if I had never met Shelly LOL. At least not AS fabulous. She helped me to see the underlying, unseen energy that crackles below the peripheral. Happy Birthday my sweet Shell and I hope the coming year brings you all the happiness you truly deserve.

A candle throws it's light into the darkness
In a nasty world so shines a good deed
Make sure thee fortune that you seek
Is the fortune that you need
Tell me why the first to ask
Is the last to give every time
What you say and do not mean
Follows you close behind

See you when I see you.

Not alot on a Wednesday.

Not much going on in Terrytown tonight. I've got the extended version of "Pirates" so that'll most likely be it. Work was work today so it'll be nice to just kick back and chill. I'm going to finish this and shut off the cyber-world for the evening. Right now I am listening to my song elimination playlist, which is down to number 662, "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie, the longest song on the entire playlist. My original plan when I started this post was to put the lyrics of the song that was playing when I posted, but this song is eighteen minutes long, so that ain't happening LOL. So, instead the next song to play is "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits

Walk of Life - Dire Straits

Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies
Be-Bop-A-Lula, Baby What I Say
Here comes Johnny singing I Got A Woman
Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay
He got the action, he got the motion
Yeah, the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day

He do the song about the sweet lovin' woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life

Here comes Johnny and he'll tell you a story
Hand me down my walkin' shoes
Here comes Johnny with the power and the glory
Backbeat the talkin' blues
He got the action, he got the motion
Yeah, the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day

He do the song about the sweet lovin' woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life

Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies
Be-Bop-A-Lula, Baby What I Say
Here comes Johnny singing I Got A Woman
Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay
He got the action, he got the motion
Yeah, the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day

After all the violence and double talk
There's just a song in the trouble and the strife
You do the walk, you do the walk of life

See you when I see you.

Border Crossings

Just returned from an over-nighter to Seattle, with major hassles getting back across the border. You'd think post-9/11 that it'd be harder to get into the USA than back into Canada, but that is obviously not the case. Every time I go south, there is no problems getting through the border, be it Port Angeles or Blaine. Every time I come back through Blaine, I get nothing but problems from Canadian customs. I arrived there last night and was sent back to the states until today. What a hassle!! So now I am off to drown my frustration in a pint or two LOL.

My Brain Hurts

Went to a kick-ass house party at some friends place last night. For someone who doesn't give 'er like that very often, I managed to last most of the evening. Good people, great food, and excellent music made for a memorable time. Now however, I am paying for the fun. My brain is hurting LOL and I'm suffering from sleep deprivation.

Internet Woes

My Internet at home has been down all week so I am posting from work. Worked huge hours all week, but I get a small break in the form of a trip to Seattle for the beginning of next week. A little reprieve from the madness.

Not a whole hell of a lot else going on. Still single, but otherwise everything couldn't be better. Not that being in a relationship is paramount, but it's nice to share with someone LOL.

Time to go pick up the kids for the night, then tomorrow is Kelly and Shaun's big bash. That should make for an interesting evening of seeing people whom I only see at one of these parties.

See you when I see you.

Back From San Fran

Back in Canada again and man does it feel good! Don't get me wrong, the USA is a great place to visit, but.....

Many things have happened since I left, starting with the horrific events from London. I find it hard to believe sometimes that we humans can still show so much hatred to each other. These acts of violence create no solutions, only more violence. To kill in the name of God is such bullshit. As far as I can tell, and I'm no expert by any means, God does not accept killing. It is a cowardly act to kill someone, and in the long run it will accomplish little in forwarding the cause of the Iraqi people. As much as I disagree with American policy regarding Iraq, to leave now would open the country to a horrible bloody civil war. Why can't we all just live as one in peace?

Back to my trip, now that I've had my soapbox time. It was absolutely beautiful down in California. I was broken down in Yreka for a couple of days so I got to see a bit of the Shasta area. It almost feels like B.C. in some respects except it was stinkin' hot LOL. Not like all the rain I missed while I was gone. I didn't really see much of note, except for these lovely fields of sunflowers (my favorite flower) that went on for miles and miles. I took a few pictures and hopefully they will turn out.

It's midnight now and I'm jumping right back into the grind tomorrow morning. So, that's all folks.

See you when I see you.

California

Well my bags are packed, I'm ready to go..........

Off to San Fran for a week of work. The Giants and Cardinals meet Friday so I've got something to do Friday night in Cali. Hopefully this time I can manage to get the laptop going LOL. If not it may be a bit until I post again.

Canada Day Weekend

My Internet has been down all weekend. Not that I had much use for it, given what a great weekend it was.

I picked up Colleen and Joshua early Friday morning and we went down to Gorge Park for the Canada Day Kidsfest. It wasn't quite as fun as it was last year, but we still had a great time. They had the inflatables set up and Josh went through them each a couple of times. Colleen was more into the petting zoo and all the soft furries that were there. We stayed there for a good part of the day, eating lunch and enjoying the sun.

The kids started to wilt from the sun in mid-afternoon, so we left the park and took off to the Caprice to see "Herbie Fully Loaded". It was nice and cool inside and the movie was pretty much what you'd expect from a Herbie movie LOL. We grabbed some McD's (Ugh) on the way home and watched a double dvd feature of "Alladin" and "Willy Wonka". We were all asleep before the end of the second movie.

Saturday morning we had breakfast and then spent the morning down at Saxe Point playing along the rocks down by the beach. The kids really like going there. It's kinda cool to have a little slice of nature so close to home. They headed home Saturday afternoon and I won't see them again for a couple of weeks. I've got to take off to San Fran on Tuesday and it will be about a ten day trip. It's too easy money to pass up. I'm going to try to configure the laptop again (LOL), and take it with me on the road, but I'm not holding my breath.

See you when I see you.

Happy Birthday Canada!!

July 1st. The birthday of this great country we call home. The day when all Canadians celebrate living in such a beautiful place. We are truly blessed.

I'm thinking of grabbing my kids and going down to Gorge Park for the celebration. We had such fun there last year! I'll let them ultimately decide what they want to do, but that is my suggestion.

Spent the last few days in Kelowna working. It is one place I could move to without much prodding. It is an absolutely gorgeous piece of the planet. Wasn't too hot while I was there thankfully.

Blah, blah, blah.
