The Week That Was

Another seven days past. Another week in the books. Same old, same old. Did a bit of writing, a bit of reading, and a bit of nothing much else LOL. Went to Sechelt on Wednesday for the first time. It reminded me of the drive to Sooke. Nice, peaceful and easy-paced.

This weeks hikes were; twice around Thetis, Devonian Park, and a Caleb Pike night hike. I'm thinking of doing the Caleb Pike to Durrance Lake hike next weekend. It looks to be about a six-hour hike. We would have to drive a car to Mackenzie Bight parking lot first, then drive a second vehicle to Caleb Pike. Weather permitting, of course.

See you when I see you.

A Little Time

I volunteered to come in to relocate the grand piano at the Royal Theatre this morning. On a Sunday!!! Boredom sure can lead to spontaneous acts of stupidity LOL. Here I am, and with a little time on my hands and a keyboard at my disposal.

Thursday was my son Joshua's tenth birthday. Double digits for my guy. We shopped for his presents Friday night, and had a great time Saturday down at Esquimalt Lagoon. Happy Birthday Joshua!!!!! I love you very much.

Get to do a quick run to Sechelt on Wednesday. I've never been there, so I am looking forward to expanding my horizons. Plus it will all fit in my van, so it's about sixteen hours of pay for twenty minutes work.

Olympics are in full swing, with Canada doing about what was expected of them. That is except for the 2-0 loss to Switzerland in hockey. To Switzerland?? LOL. Just think in four years it will be a stone's throw away in Whistler.

I think after I move the piano I am going to hike Mt Work from the Willis Point side. I've done it from the Munn's side, but the other side looks to be about an hour longer. A friend and I set out there once, but it was dusk when we got there so we just did Mackenzie Bight across the road.

So, in a nutshell, that's my day. I hope wherever you are you get out and enjoy the day. Carpe Diem. It's a beautiful day to be alive.

See you when I see you.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day. The day chocolate makers and flower growers look forward to all year. The day of love. The worst day of the year to be single LOL. I thought long and hard about what to post for today, and I came up with this little gem from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. He was a Lebanese poet and writer whose work I highly regard.

And he raised his head and looked upon the
people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And
with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions
may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as
the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses
your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun.
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them
in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks
He grinds you to whiteness
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that
you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you
may know the secrets of your heart, and in that
knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love's
peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your
nakedness and pass out on love's threshing floor.
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh,
but not all your laughter, and weep, but not all
of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught
but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "God is
in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of
God."
And think not you can direct the course of love,
for love, if it finds you worthy, directs you course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires,
let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings
it's melody into the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn to a winged heart and give
thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved
In your heart and a song of praise upon you lips.
Happy Valentine's Day.
See you when I see you.

Devonian Park

My son and I spent yesterday out in the sun at gorgeous Devonian Park. It is a rock beach out on William Head Rd. It's a cool spot where as the tide goes in and out it makes that sound on the rocks that kind of sounds like laughing. It was a good day for the "guys" to throw rocks, look for crabs, all the fun stuff.

Went for a night hike with some friends up Mill Hill last night. The lights of the city are neat from up there. It's a short, but very steep climb with a view well worth the effort.

Valentine's Day tomorrow so I will try to come up with something good.

See you when I see you.

Song Stuck in my Head (Carefully Extract!)

I've had this song stuck in my head for days. Now you will too LOL.

Loser - Beck

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin' with the loser and the cruise control
Baby's in Reno with the vitamin D
Got a couple of couches, sleep on the love seat
Someone came in sayin' I'm insane to complain
About a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
Don't believe everything that you breathe
You get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve
So shave your face with some mace in the dark
Savin' all your food stamps and burnin' down the trailer park

(Yo. Cut it)
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Double barrel buckshy)
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?

Forces of evil on a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
'Cuz one's got a weasel and the other's got a flag
One's on the pole, shove the other in a bag
With the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job
The daytime crap of the folksinger slob
He hung himself with a guitar string
A slab of turkey-neck and it's hangin' from a pigeon wing
You can't write if you can't relate
Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate
And my time is a piece of wax fallin' on a termite
That's chokin' on the splinters

Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Get crazy with the cheese whiz)
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Drive-By, Body-Pierce)
(Yo, Bring it on down)

I'm a driver, I'm a winner. Things are gonna change, I can feel it

Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(I can't believe you)
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Sprechen sie Deutches, baby)
Soy un prededor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Know what I'm sayin'?)

See you when I see you.

Mt Work

Yesterday was too nice of a day to waste working, so I spent the afternoon hiking up Mt Work. The view from the summit of Saanich Inlet was absolutely breathtaking. It was so beautiful up there I am almost tempted to leave early today and go up again.

Watched director Gus Van Sant's "Last Days" last night. Loosely based on Kurt Cobain's final hours, it was another great indie movie much along the lines of his "Elephant". If you haven't seen these and are a movie aficionado I highly recommend them.

It's too nice of a day to be working so I'm going out side now LOL. Mt Work seems too much right now, so it will have to be the waterfront.

See you when I see you.

Super Bowl and other Stuff

The hopes of hundreds of thousands of football fans in the Pacific Northwest were dashed yesterday as the Seattle Seahawks were beaten down by the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10.

Joke of the Day: What is the difference between the Seattle Seahawks and a cigarette machine?

The cigarette machine has players!!

Was it just me, or did the Rolling Stones look absolutely ridiculous performing during halftime? The time to hang 'em up has long come and gone. Mick and Keith and the boys should just learn to relax and enjoy all their money. They surely can't be broke.

Tried out a few new hiking spots recently including Mt Work. It's a neat hike with a killer view once you reach the top.

My trip down to Seattle was an interesting and eventful one. Crossed over at Sumas where the US Border Patrol refused to let my helper into the States because it would have violated the immigration labor laws. This caused about a two hour delay. Then, as soon as I had that taken care of, I entered the US and was promptly stopped for having the wrong permits for driving LOL. The officer that stopped me was none other than the late Kurt Cobain's father. Finally got everything sorted out and made it to Seattle by nine that night. The next day I had to unload the entire truck myself. To top everything off, I pulled a muscle in my back and had to suffer through the day. (Boo Hoo) I haven't been able to work at all since. I'm still working, just not doing anything physical.

See you when I see you.
