Happy Birthday To Me

Today is my birthday. Dum-Da-Da-Da-Dum. It was the same as any other day, except for all the "happy birthday" stuff. Went golfing after work and shot fairly well for someone who was playing for the second time in God knows how long.I've never been huge on the whole celebration of the day we're born thing. Now if you knew you death day, LOL, then you'd have reason to party. Not the year, just the day LOL.

Happy Birthday to Me.

Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time, don't live to fast
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Be a simple kind of man
Won't you do this for me son
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this if you try
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Be a simple kind of man
Won't you do this for me son
If you can?

Boy don't you worry.......you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this if you try
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Be a simple kind of man
Won't you do this for me son
If you can?

See you when I see you.

Baseball Fever......Catch It

Major league playoff races are in full swing. Go Red Sox. BOOOOOOOO Yankees. LOL. One week to go and the Red Sox, looking to repeat, are deadlocked with the Evil Empire from New York. Could another World Series be on the horizon for the boys from Boston. Stay tuned.

After a so-so start to my Fantasy Football season, things are slowly coming around. 27-19 overall. Da Bears brief intrusion of first place came crashing down to earth this week when they were shellacked by Cincy. It's a bye this week and then a totally winnable game against the Browns. As long as Minnesota doesn't get their shit together the division will be up for grabs. The Lions and Packers are just as bad, if not worse, than the Bears. Dare I say.....Playoffs? LOL

See you when I see you.

Near Death Experience

The saying "His life flashed before his eyes" has always sounded a little contrived to me. Until yesterday that is. As the light turned green on Douglas and Saanich roads and I began to make my turn, out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash and hammered on my brakes. A pickup truck traveling at around 80 miles an hour (Yes, 80!!) came through the intersection broadside, and missed my van by less than a foot. My life did literally pass before my eyes. If I would not have stopped there is no doubt in my mind that I most likely would have died. It was scary at the time, but as the day progressed it made me more appreciative of what I have. A cosmic "attitude adjustment", whatever you want to call it, has left me feeling quite upbeat LOL. Sometimes we all need to be reminded that what we have here is a special gift and we should do our best to see each day as the blessing it truly is.

See you when I see you.

Astrological Signs

Today the sun entered the astrological sign of Libra, my sign. According to the astrological charts (?) this is the best time of the year for me LOL. It sure could have fooled me last year. This time a year ago was a time of great turmoil for me, so I'm moving into this year with great optimism and a renewed zest for the world around me. My posts have been sporadic of late because I've been sorting through these things and getting back in touch with myself. I had found during the last year I've been outside of who I am inside, if you get my meaning. I let circumstances which I could not control dictate my emotional patterns. This may all sound like babble, but it was a forest I could not see through the trees.

Fantasy baseball playoffs have begun and out of my four teams this year, two are playing for the championship and the other two are in the third place game. Four for four on the semis!!

See you when I see you.

A Little Something

I feel bad for not posting for a few days, but my mind has been elsewhere. Here's a little something to tide you over LOL.

Concerned and consumed by consequence
Time drips like hot candle wax across bared skin
Like governments are tight-lipped about incidents
I don't have a comment about the shape I'm in
Put you arms around me from behind
And stick your hands into my front pockets
If you're the one I've been hoping to find
I'll pick you flowers and bring you chocolates

It's unfinished, but it's something.

See you when I see you.

Terry Is

I put "Terry Is" in the subject line of Google and here's what came up:

1. Terry is a master storyteller. (Once upon a time....)
2. Terry is only doing a few appearances. (At a theater near you)
3. Terry is visiting the UK in August for World Con. (Not bloody likely, mate)
4. Terry is the person for you! (The exclamation point makes this work)
5. Terry is one of the sweetest guys you'd ever care to meet. (I wholeheartedly agree)
6. Terry is kind of a modest guy. (That's I word I hear often....Modest)
7. Terry is left alone with Hank. (Keep those hands where I can see them, Mister)
8. Terry is also an actor. (All the world's a stage)
9. Terry is a wreck. (LOL...Does it show?)
10. Terry is a big man with a tiny camera. (It just looks tiny in my huge hands)

See you when I see you.

...............um................

Back after a quick trip down to Seattle. America is, unfortunately, still the same. Bush waiting a week to send the calvary to Louisiana was a joke. If it had been Texas you can bet the Guard would have been there before the storm even hit. Anywho....

Meet the teachers tomorrow night, so I'm going to go with my kids and see who is molding their minds this year. Colleen has Lindsey's fifth grade teacher so it's just Joshua's I've got to meet. The Luxton Fall Fair is this weekend also, so I imagine that is where we'll be spending Saturday.

Excerpt from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and the daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong no to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries for yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees thee mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archers hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

See you when I see you.

Procrastination

Haven't posted in a while, not due to some cataclysmic event, but rather out of sheer laziness. LOL I've gotten to the keyboard with every intention of updating my blog, but the lure of the outdoors pulls me away. So here is the update on whatever LOL.

Another week of work finished. I'm off to Seattle on an overnighter on Monday. Quick turn around which suits me just fine. Probably come back the same day and just stay in Vancouver. Small load will make for an easy day with lots of hours.

NFL season has started with the defending champs kicking it off in style 30-20 over Oakland. Da Bears open tomorrow morning against Washington. It's a pretty easy schedule for the boys this year, but as always I'm not expecting a lot LOL. My pre-season prediction for Super Bowl is (drum roll...fanfare) Indianapolis vs Carolina with the Colts winning in a blowout. Remember, you heard it here first.

The Shamrocks opened their quest for the Mann Cup last night with an 8-6 loss to Peterborough. I tried to get some tickets so I could take Joshua but it was sold out almost right away. I'll be sure to take him during the season next year.

Kids are back to school and in their words the teachers they get this year are both "ok". I asked if they were "good ok" or "bad ok" and Josh said "good" Colleen said she would tell me after she was there for a while. Smart kid!

Celebrate Work with a Day Off

Labor Day. A celebration of work LOL. The last long weekend of the summer. Kids go back to school tomorrow. School speed zones are back in effect (note to self LOL). No more wearing white LOL.

Summer is dwindling and what a summer it's been. Wonderful weather for the most part. Rather uneventful personally, with a few minor exceptions. Just another season past.

The floodwaters in Mississippi and Louisiana are slowly dissipating. The fear now is how many bodies will be exposed once the water recedes. The talk is in the thousands. What a horrible tragedy. A little prayer for those affected by this disaster.

Currently Playing - Peaceful, Easy Feeling - The Eagles

Sunshine Coast

Back after spending the last two days in Powell River on the Sunshine Coast. It was nice to get away for a couple of days but it's a very boring place to go. The next time work needs someone to go there you can be sure it won't be me LOL. It's nice to be back home even if I was only gone two days! My kids are coming over tomorrow to spend the rest of the long weekend and then it will be school time for them. Colleen has just this year left in elementary school. That's hard to believe LOL. Hopefully it will be nice out this weekend so we can end the summer with some fun!

See you when I see you.
