August

Well it's been a while since my last update. Almost three weeks to be precise. Not that I've been super busy doing all sorts of groovy stuff, just a bit of late summer procrastination.

Doing a fair bit of golfing in the last little while. Trying to get my game up to par LOL. Still have a LONG way to go in order to do that. I'm hitting it long, it's just the straight thing I'm having issues with. Let's just say that Tiger doesn't need to look over his shoulder for me.

Baseball season is down to it's final weekend. We split our preliminary games and now it's down to single elimination. We play today at noon, and then hopefully continue on after. This season was up and down for the team; we finished just one game over .500. Personally, it's been a great year. Hitting from the lead-off spot, I've managed an on-base percentage of .850 with three Slams.

Kelly and Shaun had their annual August bash last night. They had a stage, a band, and a shitload of people. The music lasted until midnight and then the cops came and it became an acoustic show. There were at least a dozen top-notch musicians, and the sound was great. The funniest part of the evening was watching people try to distract the cops while someone put one of the "Hello my name is...." stickers on his back. The name they chose was "Heywood Jablowme
We all had them on, with assorted names. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, I was "Fishstick". Dunno why.

Kids are good. Job is good. Life in general is good. Summers dwindling. I think I've got time to go do nine at Juan de Fuca before ball. I'm outie.

See you when I see you.

Mom's Birthday

Today my mother turns sixty-six. The word "mother" was recently named the most beautiful word in the English language in a survey of professors at major universities around the world.

Creator of Life.

My mother is a good mother in that she's not a bad mother. She's never been one for exposing either emotions or feelings. I love her, but she also saddens me. I wish things were better for her.

Happy Birthday Mom.

I love you.

See you when I see you.

Colleen's Birthday

Today my lovely daughter, who I love soooo much, turns twelve. Colleen Louise Davies was born August 4, 1996. She's a great kid, who is turning into someone I know will continue to be a source of pride to me. I love you my sweet little girl.

From "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran

And a woman who held a babe against
her bosom said, Speak to us of children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's
longing for itself.
They come through you but not from
you,
and though they are with you yet they
belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not
your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not
their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even
in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek
not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries
with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path
of the infinite, and He bends you with His
might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand
be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

See you when I see you.
